All about Eastern Peripheral Expressway!
The 135 km Eastern Perimeter Highway, which was constructed for Rs 11,000 crore, includes some distinctive characteristics and is the first highway in India to be illuminated with solar energy on an annual basis in addition to following rules for rainwater collecting. 40 fountains, together with 36 national monuments.
Solar panels are used to power the roadway. On this route, there are 8 solar power plants with a combined 4 MW (4,000 kilowatts) output. The cutting-edge road will also have automated congestion since cameras will record the speed of the car and only charge for the distance traveled. At the highway’s entrance on the Kundli side, there is a well-known toll booth in addition to a digital art gallery. It has a smart/interactive infrastructure, a best-in-class safety system, and a video incident detection system. These features together with its eco-friendliness, best-in-class safety features, and intelligent and intelligent road traffic management system (HTMS), will make it a benchmark in road construction.
On November 5, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for the greenfield project. In a record 500 days, the motorway was finished. The government claims that 2.5 lakh trees have been planted alongside the highway, including drip watering and the replacement of 8–10-year-old trees. It required 3.6 million cubic meters of earthworks, 11,000 tonnes of cement, 1,000 tonnes of steel, and 1.2 million cubic meters of fly ash. According to the minister, the inclusion of the project has generated 9,375 workers and almost 50,000 man-days of job prospects.
To reduce vehicular pollution, significant traffic would be redirected away from Delhi and at least 50,000 cars will be sent to Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The EPE’s alignment begins close to Kundli and passes through Sonepat, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, and Palwal, six parliamentary districts. Services include convenience stores, hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments. Ashoka Lion, Ashoka Chakra, Konark Temple, Jalianwala Bagh, Gateway of India, Qutab Minar, Char Minar, Lal Quila, Kirti Stambh, India Gate, Hawa Mahal, and Gujarat Carving are only a few examples of reproductions.
Farmers’ opposition to the project in the past was caused by issues with the land and other factors, but this was later overcome by offering more compensation. The Eastern Perimeter Highway must be available to the public until May 31 under a decision from the 10th Supreme Court, which questioned why NHAI was “waiting for the Prime Minister to inaugurate it.” The top court decided that if the 135 km motorway, which connects Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar-Greater Noida, and Palwal without requiring a signal, does not open by May 31 it must be made accessible to the general population, which was experiencing traffic congestion in Delhi.
