RWA to setup COVID centers in Bengaluru and Gurugram
The country is battling the worst it has experienced in the last decade. The COVID-19 cases in India have been on a rise for a month now. With hospitals running out of beds and oxygen, the citizens of India are doing their best to help the country tackle this disaster.
Since both Bengaluru and Gurugram have been emerging as the epicenter of Covid cases, the district administration of Gurugram and Bengaluru have allowed the NGOs and gated housing societies to set up small covid centers in their premises. Many housing societies and NGOs have requested permission to set up these facilities which are run by the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). This is majorly done to treat mild symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
These Covid centers will be using their own resources and will be a big help as they reduce the burden on hospitals by managing the asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic covid patients. Such an order would help the covid cases stay in check.
During the first wave of COVID-19, such an order was requested but the government thought it wasn’t necessary as the country hadn’t faced such a huge crisis where the whole country is grappling for beds and oxygen.
One should keep in mind that these Covid centers are not meant for critically ill, elderly patients, lactating or pregnant women, children less than 10 years of age, and patients with comorbidities. It is essential that the Covid centers in Gurugram and Bengaluru follow strict infection control and prevention policies, separate toilets, and no intermixing.
The facility also needs to be linked with an ambulance provider, surveillance team (IDSP). Citizens should also prominently display the telephone numbers of the doctors and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). If a doctor is residing in the gates housing society, he/she needs to facilitate the daily examination of these patients.
It is best if a caregiver is also present to keep the records and contact the emergency clinic if necessary. Both the caregiver and doctor will undergo a training session on Covid management, infection, prevention, and control practices which is organized by the (CMO) Chief Medical Officer.
This is a very thoughtful initiative by the citizens of India. By doing so, the pressure on many hospitals will be reduced and patients can be treated in well-equipped Covid centers.
