Haryana government is ready to set up a Panchkula development body

Panchkula: On Tuesday, June 8, the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced the establishment of the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority(PMDA).

The PMDA will work alongside other departments like Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran, HSIIDC, and Municipal Corporation; such corporation would allow the body to handle the availability of infrastructure and other key facilities to the people.

Khattar said, “The PMDA would ensure sustained and balanced growth of Panchkula. The authority would work on the similar lines of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA).”

Apart from being known as the place where five irrigation canals meet, because of the proximity, Panchkula also acts as a gateway into Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh which gives it great potential to be an industrial and logistic hub. Construction is already underway for the road connecting Chandigarh international airport to Panchkula and the Ghaggar river bridge.

He said, “We have developed paragliding facilities at Morni to develop Panchkula as a tourism hub. Paragliding will be started there on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21.”

Apart from the industrial and logistical side of things, Khattar also shared his plans to make Panchkula a major hub for tourism, medical infrastructure, and adventure sports activities like paragliding, mountaineering, and trekking while maintaining an eco-friendly stance. “Similarly, the construction work of Pinjore airstrip is in progress. Soon after its completion, people will be able to take advantage of air taxi service, which will be started for tourist places like Shimla, Dharamshala, Kullu,” he said. Pinjore has also been scouted for building a film city; as of now, plans are being formulated to make it a reality.

To develop the medical industry in Panchkula, the state has planned to open a joint food and drug testing lab in Panchkula’s Sector-3 at the cost of Rs 22 crore. There are also plans underway for a wellness center, panchakarma center (at Thapli), and a nursing college. Not to mention the two big hospitals in sector-32 and sector-5C built with modern medical infrastructure that will soon be opened. As per Khattar, Panchluk External Development Charges (EDC) and Infrastructure Development Charges (IDC) have been slashed by almost one-third to make the city more attractive in terms of investments, which in turn helps with the development process, much like Mohali and Zirakpur.

With regards to education, Khattar has mentioned that a site has been identified in Chandimandir in hopes of setting up an education city. As for the historical significance, he said “A state-of-the-art archaeological museum is being established in Sector-5 of Panchkula to make the residents of the state aware of the glorious history of Haryana,”

With such major developments en route to Panchkula, the state will set up an extensive Information Education Communication (IEC) campaign to keep the people of the state and the Panchkula residents in the loop. All the public information about future projects as well as major ongoing projects and the completed ones will be displayed on IEC for all to see.
