About Rajkot International Airport, Gujarat
According to Rajkot District Magistrate, the Hirasar Airport, also known as Rajkot Greenfield International Airport, is anticipated to open in August of this year, providing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Hawai Chappal to Hawai Jahaaz” campaign a major boost.
This airport, which is being built on a site of 1,032 hectares and is located 30 kilometers from Rajkot, a commercial center, is being built on four floors. It may contain a total of 14 parking spaces and a passenger terminal that is 23,000 square meters in size. “The manufacturing work is progressing well, and this airport should be operational by the end of August or September this year. Eighty-five percent of the work at the runway has been finished, according to Rajkot District Magistrate Arun Mahesh Babu. He was also aware that 12 of the Saurashtra region’s districts will benefit from the new airport because the region is a major center for producing sports that depend on air connection.
The fact that this airport also serves as a shipping airport, he claimed, will allow for faster transportation of the region’s producing goods, such as silk and ceramic products. According to Rajkot DM, there may be seven boarding gates at the airport, each with three aerobridges and three conveyor belts. “There may be 8 immigration desks next to customs counters because the airport may be international. At its busiest, the airport could be able to accommodate more than 1280 passengers at once,” he continued. The airport located on the dual road between Rajkot and Ahmedabad would provide time- and cost-related solutions for the logistics of various industries in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
The inspiration stone for this project was laid in October 2017 for Rs 1405 crore, which was sanctioned by the Modi administration in 2018. Due to the residential and commercial buildings nearby, the current Rajkot Airport faces severe capacity restrictions. It is located in the town center. Additionally, it cannot accommodate planes bigger than the Airbus 320 or Boeing 737-800. Thirteen planes depart from the current Rajkot airport in a single day to destinations like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Vizag, and Goa, among others.
“Once the new airport is operational, the number of flights might increase to seven per hour. The NRI population, who will now be able to come directly to the Saurashtra location instead of having to take more than one connecting flight, receives blessings from this airport for travel related to international tourist research and visits, according to the Rajkot DM. Gujarat has had the BJP in power since 1995, and the party is presently seeking a sixth term inside the state. Gujarat will have elections this year in December.
