All About the Gorakhpur link Expressway
The 91.352-kilometer Gorakhpur link expressway, which is now under construction, would be another milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development.
The Uttar Pradesh government chose to build the Gorakhpur link highway to transport cultural and commercial assets from Gorakhpur to Azamgarh and vice versa. Faster connection and a better commuting experience are expected as a result of this expressway, with a trip duration of fewer than 5 hours. Land acquisition for the Gorakhpur Link Expressway began in 2019, as announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2018. The total cost of the project, including land, is Rs 5,876.67 crore.This four-lane highway, which would connect Gorakhpur district’s Jaitpur village to Azamgarh district’s Salarpur village through the newly opened Purvanchal Expressway, can be enlarged to six lanes.
Implementation
The Gorakhpur link expressway begins in Jaitpur village on NH-27 and ends at Salarpur on the Purvanchal expressway. The Gorakhpur link expressway runs across four districts: Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, and Sant Kabir Nagar. The Ghaghara River will also be crossed. A second link road will connect the Gorakhpur link expressway to Varanasi in the future.The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode will be used to build the Gorakhpur link expressway. APCO Infrastructure will be in charge of creating package 1 – which would go from Jaitpur to Fulwariya in Ambedkar Nagar and be approximately 48.317 kilometers long.
DilipBuildcon will be in charge of package 2 of the Gorakhpur link highway, which would run 43.035 kilometers from Fulwariya in Ambedkar Nagar to Salarpur in Azamgarh. The Gorakhpur link expressway has a 110-meter right-of-way (ROW).Work on this expressway project began on February 10, 2020, and will last until October 11, 2021. The land acquisition for the Gorakhpur link expressway is nearly complete, with 96.19 percent of the total area required for project execution purchased. The project is on track, with a 10.2021 environmental approval and a Department of Forest NOC in the works.
Key Highlights
The Gorakhpur link expressway will contain a service road, underpasses for automobiles, pedestrians, and animals, and will be a fully access-controlled expressway. Around two toll plazas, three ramp plazas, 27 minor bridges, more than 50 vehicular underpasses for light vehicles, 16 vehicular underpasses, and more than 30 pedestrian underpasses are expected to be built as part of the project. According to the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the overall development of the Gorakhpur link expressway was 30% as of November 23, 2021.
