Specifics about the Navi Mumbai International Airport project

During 2018, the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) was named the key entity for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project. To carry out the project, the authority used the DBFOT Model (design, construct, finance, administer, and transfer) in a public-private partnership. The airport will be built in four phases and will be completed by 2032.

The airport’s entire land size is estimated to be roughly 2,860 acres. The first phase of the project will involve the building of two runways capable of accommodating 80 flights per hour. The project was planned to become live in December 2020.

The current state of Navi Mumbai Airport

In 2021, the Adani Group bought a majority share in Navi Mumbai International Airport. Just after that, the nodal body turned over the site to Adani Group in June 2022 to begin building of the terminal and runway.

The construction contract for Phase One was given to Larsen and Toubro. Trimmed and complete work, terminal construction work such as departure and arrival forecourts, airfield development such as a 3,700-metre-long runway, apron systems, taxiway systems, airfield ground lighting, and other amenities such as multilevel car parking, utilities, and necessary infrastructure are all included in the contract.

The influence of the Navi Mumbai airport on the real estate market

A second airport was planned to relieve the strain on Mumbai’s present international airport. Furthermore, Navi Mumbai has an abundance of available land parcels and is one of the most developed cities in the country. As a result, it was the favoured location for an international airport. Nevertheless, because the whole land where the airport is envisioned lies inside the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), legal and environmental difficulties created significant delays at first. Nonetheless, with the project on schedule, the majority of the development in Navi Mumbai will be greenfield. Infrastructure improvements, such as broad roads, sidewalks, efficient drainage, and sewage systems, will also be developed.
