Cox Town is a North Bangalore Cantonment neighbourhood named for Alexander Ranken Cox (A R Cox), the final Collector and District Magistrate of the Bangalore Civil and Military Station.

It is one of the suburbs that arose from the plan to decongest the densely inhabited sections of the Bangalore Cantonment following the bubonic plague.
