Aurangabad’s climate action plan to come up by 2023

AURANGABAD: By 2023, a course of action for Aurangabad, Maharashtra, would be developed to prepare the city for climate threats and hazards. According to local authorities, one of the system’s essential parts will be a drop in greenhouse gas emissions.

The World Resources Institute, India (WRI) has been contracted by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation (ASCDCL) to create the city’s climate action plan.

An official announcement stated that a letter of intent (LoL) in this respect was signed on Wednesday. Astik Kumar Pandey, Municipal Commissioner, Administrator, and CEO of Aurangabad Smart City, met with WRI representatives online.

During the conference, WRI’s Lubaina Rangwala stated, “Heavy rainfall, extreme weather events, desertification, floods, and disasters were all driven by climate change.”

“A well-planned programme is required to protect the city for climate threats and hazards. This is why WRI wishes to develop a climate action plan for the city of Aurangabad “Rangwala stated.

Aurangabad’s climate action strategy will be divided into two sections. The first is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or key pollutants, and the second is to strengthen city and community capacity to deal with climate change, according to the announcement.

As per deal, WRI will present a 30-year strategy masterplan in five parts by 2023, according to an official. Commissioner Pandey stated that the company will establish a climate change unit led by a deputy commissioner-level employee.
