Civic bodies seeking help from RWA to collect advance property tax

The last day to pay property tax in Delhi was extended by the city’s municipal corporations on Thursday.

The North Delhi Municipal Commission has pushed the date back to July 15, while the South Delhi Municipal Commission has set the new date as July 31, respectively.  This is the final opportunity to take advantage of the 15 percent timely payment refund on lump-sum payments of property tax for the fiscal year 2021-22, as well as the 3 percent Covid vaccine incentive rebate (applicable only to residential properties) until July 31, according to the announcement.

The decision to extend the deadline for paying property taxes was made after several residents complained about technical difficulties with the online portal. It further stated that the decision was made because people were experiencing difficulties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Civic bodies are encouraging Resident Welfare Association (RWAs/market associations) to contact officials concerned and citizen service centers (CSCs) to host property tax camps in their areas to encourage as many individuals as possible to submit their property tax before the deadline (July 31).

“All RWAs/market associations are urged to make contact with CSCs in order to organize camps. Allow CSC entrepreneurs at the village level to assist individuals in filing their property tax returns online. After receiving requests, each CSC’s district manager will handle logistics and other arrangements, while people can approach CSCs and have a return submitted online for Rs 100 per property. The circular stated that “for submitting advance property tax, a person will receive a 15% rebate, as well as specific rebates for women and older citizens.”

On July 2, the north civic authority and CSC’s e-Governance Services India Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enable people to file online property taxes through their centers, organize camps, and provide 14 other services.

Commissioner Sanjay Goel said the civic body has extended the deadline for paying property taxes to July 31, with a 15% refund if the lump sum amount was paid on time. “People should deposit their property taxes before the last date to take advantage of this facility,” he stated.
