CMDA to develop five satellite towns around Chennai
CHENNAI: To prevent careless expansion, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority will concentrate on creating Thirumazhisai, Minjur, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpet as satellite towns around the state capital, planning new town development plans, and setting up road network along these corridors for improving accessibility.
S Muthusamy, the state assembly’s minister for housing and urban development, made the announcement on Wednesday. The proposal for the second master plan for Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) development comprised territories of 5,094 square kilometers in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Arakkkonam taluks.
This had been produced and was being reviewed. The intended expansion had already been reduced from 8,889 square kilometers, and authorities suggested that after talks with local entities, it may be reduced even more, as the emphasis is now on vertical growth inside the city instead of horizontal expansion.
The CMDA has previously set up a road grid strategy for 196 revenue villages in the CMA in order to improve transportation in underdeveloped regions.
Tamil Nadu Housing Board is already developing 311 acres of land next to the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway at Thirumazhisai. “Work at a cost of Rs245 crore has already been finished, and plots, homes, and apartments will be taken in the next phase,” the policy paper stated.
Anshul Mishra, member secretary of the CMDA, stated that the planning authority will prepare master plans, build a road grid, and introduce land pooling programs and other strategic directions to help these towns become self-sufficient.
