Everything you need to know about the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is among 10 expressways that will be built as part of the ‘Bharatmala Pariyojana.’
This 670-kilometer expressway runs through the states of Delhi, Punjab, Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana, and is a blend of greenfield and brownfield expressway. It is now a four-lane controlled-access expressway with the potential to grow to an eight-lane expressway in the future.
The motorway, which links Delhi to Vaishno Devi through Katra and the Golden Temple in Amritsar, will make religious tourism a little less crowded. The road will also connect Dera Baba Nanak, Goindwal Sahib, Khadoor Sahib, and Tarn Taran, which are all significant Sikh religious sites.
Information on the Delhi-Katra Expressway project
- During 2016, the project was introduced, and the detailed construction assessment was completed in 2019.
- The highway will link Delhi’s Bahadurgarh border with Katra, Punjab, through Nakodar and Gurdaspur.
- Near Nakodar, a town in Punjab, the Greenfield Expressway splits in two.
- Sultanpur Lodhi, Goindwal Sahib, Khadoor Sahib, TarnTarn, and Sri Guru Ram DassJee International Airport near Amritsar would be included in the first greenfield area.
- The greenfield expressway and the brownfield expressway make up the second portion. It bypasses Kathua and Jammu on its way to Katra.
- About 14,000 acres of land from Punjab and 5,000 acres from Haryana are expected to be bought.
Reduced travel time on the Delhi-Katra Expressway
The distance connecting Delhi and Katra is approximately 750 kilometers. It will be decreased to 572 kilometers once the expressway is operating. Traveling between the holy city of Katra and the national capital will be made easier thanks to this road, which will reduce travel time from 14 hours to 6 hours.
Likewise, the distance between Delhi and Amritsar would be cut to 405 kilometers, with travel time decreased from 8 to 4 hours.
