Faster Journeys Ahead: Government’s Initiative to Develop 6-Lane Highway for Noida-Delhi Route
Nitin Gadkari, the federal minister for roads and highways, recently shared information about the project in his official Twitter post. The government intends to build a six-lane highway to connect districts in the Delhi NCR.
The transfer of 1.11 acres to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the construction of the roadway has been approved by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The Delhi government’s irrigation and flood control department would provide the 4,235-meter-long land block to NHAI.
The Bharatmala Pariyojana will be used to create the project, and the projected cost is Rs 2,627 crore. The road would link the Jaitpur-Pushta Road stretch of NH148NA, which is the Delhi section of the Delhi-Mumbai motorway, to the junction with the Maharani Bagh side of the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway.
The proposed route will save three to four hours off the trip between Noida and Delhi to the future Delhi-Mumbai Motorway. A green belt connects the road to the Agra and Gurgaon canals in a parallel fashion. From Jaitpur-Pushta Road to the intersection near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal motorway (KMP motorway) part of National Highway 148 (NH 148), the highway will be built. It would include places like Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, and Palwal and will span Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
According to the union minister, inert material will be used to build embankments and create elevated structures on a single pier as part of the initiative to ensure sustainable development.
The NHAI will develop the project in a number of packages, including:
- An elevated portion along the Yamuna River will be part of the initial 9-km package from the DND flyway to Jaitpur. Only motorway traffic will use it.
- The second package, which runs from Jaitpur to Ballabhgarh over an existing bypass, will include a 25-km segment with six lanes and no signals for motorway traffic. – The NHAI will build three-lane service roads on both sides.
- Ballabhgarh and Sohna are connected by the third package.
