NDMC’s Record Revenue in FY24: Analyzing Growth and Future Implications

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has made headlines with its latest financial performance for the fiscal year 2023-24, reporting a substantial revenue of Rs 3,795.3 crore. This marks a 15.11% increase from the previous year, showcasing an impressive stride in the urban body’s financial management and operational efficiency. Let’s delve into the various aspects of NDMC’s revenue sources, the strategies behind their successful year, and what this could mean for the future.

Breaking Down the Revenue Streams
NDMC’s revenue collection is diversified across several streams, including property tax, license fees, commercial revenue from utilities like water and electricity, and parking fees. Each of these sectors has contributed to the record-setting performance, albeit with varying degrees of success: Property Tax: Despite falling short of the target of Rs 1,150 crore, property tax collection reached Rs 1,025.59 crore, a significant 10.13% increase from the previous year. This growth is notable as it’s the first time property tax revenues have crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark in NDMC’s history.

Commercial Revenue: The largest chunk of NDMC’s revenue comes from commercial activities related to utilities. The council collected Rs 1,811.71 crore from the supply of electricity and water, exceeding its target of Rs 1,659.95 crore and marking continued growth from previous years.

License Fees: The estate department has also seen a remarkable increase, bringing in Rs 937 crore against a target of Rs 825 crore. This figure is a substantial rise from Rs 628.68 crore in FY23 and Rs 527.74 crore in FY22.
Parking Fees: Even smaller revenue streams like parking fees surpassed targets, bringing in Rs 21 crore against an expected Rs 20 crore.
