The fact that different states and UTs issue their unique driving licenses in their distinct formats has caused some confusion for the government and the traffic police. According to recent data, over 25% of Indians have multiple driving licenses. The government has already removed the requirement to link DLs to Aadhar, but it continues to work toward issuing consistent driving licenses across all States and Union Territories, according to a Times of India report.
Beginning in July 2019, all new Driving Licenses issued by RTOs across the country will have a consistent look, meaning that they will all have the same layout, color, design, and safety features. Additionally, a SIM card-like microchip and QR codes may be included in all new DLs. The paper also demonstrates that similar to metro cards, all new DLs include near-field communication capabilities to make it easier for traffic law enforcement personnel to access the data. The call of the issuing authority will be paired with the National and State trademarks on new intelligent driver’s licenses. Even the blood institution and an announcement for organ donation will be affected. Additional information will be preserved as at the contemporary DLs.
This new uniform alternate will no longer just apply to licenses for rookies and inexperienced drivers. This new design may be shown on all renewal licenses as well as on car registration certificates. With the introduction of the new BS-VI norms, the RC will essentially have to declare its chassis type and emission norm (BS-IV/BS-VI) at the RC.
A Ministry of Road Transport and Highways document further states that over 43,000 cars are registered daily in India and over 32,000 new driving permits are awarded daily. New riding licenses will be issued as soon as the new system is in place, and anybody registering a vehicle for renewal or re-registration will automatically receive the new DL and RC. The countrywide distribution of this new device has already begun, according to the Indian government, and is expected to last through July 2019. State Governments will be given enough time to roll out the new smart riding license, and the cost of switching to this new device will no longer exceed Rs 20.
Nitin Gadkari recently stated that the Ministry of Road Transport is using a new database to help reduce information duplication and the number of riding permits. This new enhancement follows his statement. Multiple Driver’s Licenses are forbidden, and violators may face harsh punishment from the government. Aadhar and DL must be linked to utilizing DigiLocker and the mParivahan app; this is another step the MoRTH is taking to enforce the need for a single-person one-riding license throughout India.
