PMAY-G: Transforming Rural Lives!
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is a government-funded scheme that aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to all houseless householder living in kutcha and dilapidated houses in rural areas by 2022. The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and is funded by the central government.
The main objectives of PMAY-G are to:

The scheme is open to all eligible households in rural areas, including:
- Households that do not own a house
- Households that live in kutcha or dilapidated houses
Eligible households are required to submit an application to the local government authority. The application form can be downloaded from the MoRD website or obtained from the local government office.
Under PMAY-G, the central government provides financial assistance to eligible households to construct pucca houses. The amount of financial assistance varies depending on the location of the house. For houses built in plain areas, the central government provides an assistance of Rs. 1.2 lakh. For houses built in hilly areas, the central government provides an assistance of Rs. 1.3 lakh.
In addition to financial assistance, the central government also provides other benefits to PMAY-G beneficiaries, including:
- 90 days of unskilled wage employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
- Assistance for construction of toilets
As of October 2023, the central government has sanctioned over 2.9 crore houses under PMAY-G. Over 2.5 crore houses have been completed and occupied by beneficiaries.
PMAY-G is a major initiative by the government to improve the living conditions of rural households. The scheme has been successful in providing pucca houses to millions of households in rural areas.
