Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 1152 houses constructed as part of the Light House Project – Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 116 crore under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban. Tamil Nadu’s Light House Project to provide homes to 1,152 families could be a game-changer in building affordable houses at a competitive cost as the project has been completed within 17 months of its foundation stone being laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
This project, which is estimated to cost Rs 116 crore, consists of sixteen towers, each with seven storeys and a total of 1,152 dwelling units. The government intends to build six LHPs in Indore, Lucknow, Ranchi, Chennai, Agartala, and Rajkot as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) initiative.
In January 2021, the Prime Minister set the groundwork for this facility. A 12-month completion timetable for all Light House Projects was established, with rewards for on-time delivery.
Precast construction methods have been applied to shorten timescales in Chennai. Development and overall project efficiency were also explored using technologies from Finland and the United States.
