Pune metro’s Swargate to Katraj extension gets the state government’s nod
The state government approved the Swargate-Katraj development project for the Pune Metro on Wednesday. MahaMetro will construct the 5.4km subterranean line, which will include three proposed stops.
The Pune Municipal Corporation made a proposal to the state government after getting a detailed project report from MahaMetro. The project has now been sent to the Union government. If approved, the project will be completed in April 2027.
The PCMC-Swargate route, which incorporates an underground section connecting Shivajinagar and Swargate, is already under construction by MahaMetro. The new route is planned to benefit the inhabitants of Padmavati, Gultekdi, Market Yard, Dhankawdi, Bibvewadi, Balajinagar, Sainathnagar, Katraj, and Ambegaon.
The development is valued at Rs3,668 crore. The state government will spend Rs891 crore, PMC will contribute Rs655 crore, and the state will request Rs300 crore from the central government. MahaMetro would receive Rs1,803 crore through soft loans. As per PMC sources, the local authority has proposed Additions to MahaMetro and the state government. During the outbreak, the Swargate-Katraj plan was accepted at a general body assembly.
A MahaMetro spokesperson confirmed, “The state government’s clearance is very welcomed. At the Centre, the concept must go through many stages of evaluation and get the necessary approvals. We are ready to help in whatever way. Construction will commence only when all necessary approvals have been received “The official went on.
