The Jetty project in Navi Mumbai is likely to be completed by 2021
The 111 crores worth Jetty project handled by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CDICO) for water transportation from Mandawa to Nerul and from Nerul to the Gateway of India.
The project is approaching the home stretch anticipated to be completed by the end of 2021. The project completion was delayed owing to the pandemic-induced lockdown in 2020 and legal clearance from the forest department.
The accomplishment of water transportation aims to reduce the travel time between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai by 30 minutes. Moreover, it takes 90 minutes to travel to Southbound Mumbai from Navi Mumbai via any transportation mode. The administration is optimistic about the successful completion of the project regardless of the delays imposed in 2020.
Rajan Vichare MP Thane and Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, managing manager of city and industrial development, supervised the ongoing progress of the jetty construction. While affirming the enactment, they also confirmed the successful completion of the project by the end of 2021.
In addition to which they stated, “The enactment of the Rs 111 crore jetty project initiated in the year 2018 and was expected to be successfully completed within 24 months. However, the project completion was prolonged due to aggregate reasons from the hold of clearance by the Forest Department to the abrupt pandemic induced lockdown in 2020 followed in the year 2021.”
Furthermore, CIDCO, which is processing the project, confirmed that the project is going through the final stages of finishing, and it is an astatine signifier of its successful completion. The project is most likely to be completed by either Diwali or the twelfth month of the year 2021 in the best scenario and favorable conditions.
CIDCO also confirmed that once the project is successfully completed, the operation and management of the jetty project will be handed over to the Mumbai Maritime Board (MMB). Nevertheless, CIDCO would still be responsible for maintaining the Jetty Project.
The enactment connected to the three terminals of the water terminals, one each at the Ferry Wharf, Nerul, and Mandwa, is already going on. MMB, the nodal bureau for the project, has successfully roped in the CIDCO and the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). According to the reports, MMB will be responsible for funding the construction process at Mandwa, CIDCO at Nerul, and MbPT at Ferry Wharf. All these will be associated with each other throughout the process.
