The river Yamuna was immediately outside the walled city, and the “Darya” (lit. “River”) alludes to it. Daryaganj is one of the three subdivisions of the Central Delhi District, as well as its administrative headquarters. Mostly on Ansari Road, an inner road on the eastern side of Daryaganj and its adjoining neighborhoods, ranging from S. Chand & Co. to Prentice Hall India, to Oxford University Press. Daryaganj is also home to Hans, a Hindi literary journal created by Premchand, a pioneer in Hindi writing, and relaunched by writer Rajendra Yadav in 1986.

Cuisine

Daryaganj also features the Moti Mahal, which was previously Old Delhi’s lone restaurant and was created by Kundan Lal Jaggi, Thakur Das Mago, and Kundan Lal Gujral, who are well renowned for inventing butter chicken and contemporary dal makhani. Chor Bizarre, which serves Kashmiri food and is located near the Delite theatre, is another prominent contemporary restaurant & zaika foods, a restaurant, and caterer.
