Tips for keeping your house odour-free during the monsoons

Due to the obvious humidity and excess moisture during the monsoon season, most houses have an unpleasant odour. If you have a pet, the odour will only become worse. Rina Agarwal, who rescued a dog named ‘Muffins’ from urchins assaulting her, describes how “my husband and in-laws embraced her totally into our modest flat.” They also contributed to her treatment. During the monsoons, though, people kept moaning about the lingering pet odour.” There are various safe solutions to manage pet odour at home, not just during the monsoons but year-round, for pet owners who are faced with this problem.

Simmering solutions for removing pet odour

“Simmering aromatic spices, herbs, flowers, or fruits in a pot on the stove is a simple, eco-friendly technique to improve the air quality at home.” Simply place fruit peels, such as apples, lemons, sticks of cinnamon, or any other spice or herb of your choice, in a saucepan of boiling water. “Lower the flame and let it simmer, allowing the smell to fill your home,” Agarwal says.

Spray to get rid of pet odours.

Falguni Patel, who adopted two abandoned Labradors, says that essential oils may be utilised to simply scent the air in any environment. “All you have to do is fill a spray bottle halfway with water, add a few drops of essential oil, and spritz the solution about.” Instead, soak wads of cotton or strips of fabric in scented oil water and set them in the rooms,” Patel suggests.

Maintain proper grooming for your pet.

According to veterinary specialist Dr Rahul Mulekar, “although employing the scent of fragrant herbs and flowers to conceal or counteract the overwhelming pet odour may be great, it is more vital to maintain the pet clean and sanitary.” Pet hair has an odour, and it also contains oil, which draws dirt to the cloth on which it lays. As a result, it is critical to periodically clip your pet’s nails, brush and wash them, and keep the premises clean. To remove pet hair, sweep and cleanse your furniture daily. Consult your veterinarian frequently to confirm that there is no inherent health concern producing the odour.”
